Entertainment

Entertainment has been within the fabric of society and nature since its creation. People are constantly trying to understand new encounters and are amused by their own and others accomplishments and failures in regard to them, it is what makes life and existence 'entertaining'.

With the advent of musical instruments i.e. drums, rhythm and dance was founded and used to convey understanding by the percussionists sounds and the dancers movements, soon vocalisations were added to the beat to convey specific understanding, this accumulated in the foundation of events where people would gather en mass to watch the spectical. We all love a good show so more and more was added in time to these gatherings, instruments, dialogues, sheet music, stages, scripts etc. Entertainment became the main drive of society outside of economic development of which brilliantly was often driven by the musings of those entertained. In high society and low, people would gather around a piano and sing along to it, from this 'Stars' were born and shows were put on to entertain, these shows created the likes of theatres and venues which would be filled by the mass public so they could be entertained by what was popular in society. New technologies developed and soon photography and motion picture became the sources of entertainment, people via these mediums could be entertained en mass in the lavish spaces created for such technologies - cinemas became a sign of culture and a source of the modern way. Sound was added to what were silent films creating the first 'talkies' which took what was already entertaining to be even more intriguing and informative. Friendships and relationships were formed over what was entertaining and people strove for more to talk about and enjoy, soon the radio was introduced, which alongside printed publications took mass societies entertainment into the home where people could privately indulge in their favourite forms allowing for niche conversations to develop and mingle within personal lives with material based upon what was available to the public. Television solidified private and public opinion even further and it was added to via the introduction of the internet and mobile access to what is a catalogue of entertainment which is now all available at a click of a button.

We live in an age of openness and access whereby we are entertained both privately and publically in formidable ways - at home theatres, festivals, multiplexes, gigs, independent cinemas, art centers, bars, auditoriums, stages, the news stand, coffee shops, restaurants, buses, cars, planes the list goes on. This brilliance is only set to develop further - augmented realities, interactive projection, audience participation, virtual reality and further technologies and experiences.

With that understanding I'll leave you with this,

Anything in existence can be entertaining if you have the perspective to enjoy it.
